$20 = QUALITY FOOD

WHAT’S IN YOUR GROCERY BAG?

Groceries
GOOD FOOD – $20

I’m often asked what I eat on a daily basis. So today, I stopped at the store, just for some eggs. As usual, I can’t walk out of the grocery store without buying a bit more. Today, 20 bucks worth of simple, quality, healthy, nutritious food.

Organic Eggs – great source of protein, folic acid, B vitamins, vitamin A & D, a good ratio of Omega3 and Omega6(if free range eggs), source of choline which is essential for brain function. Buy some quality eggs, they’re a nutrition quick and easy snack.

Garlic – one of the oldest medicinal foods on the planet, and you can’t beat the taste of it. Shown in studies to help from warding of colds, to having a positive effect on blood pressure. Garlic supplements still can’t substitute for the real thing either, so eat some real garlic.

Kiwis – considered by some experts to be one of the most nutrient dense fruits. High levels of Vit. C, source of fiber, and a source of magnesium

Antibiotic/Hormone Free Chicken – eat some good chicken!

Sweet Potato/Yam – a great source of quality carbohydrates, great for post-surf consumption and re-fueling your muscle glycogen. Has both soluble and insoluble fiber, contains quercetin (anti-inflammatory), and has beta-carotene.

Baked sweet potatoes, salt, and coconut oil – awesome.

Avocado – great source of quality fat. Do your body, your hormones, your energy production, and your life a favor, and eat some high quality fats.

Kale – contains cancer fighting indoles, and also is a great source of calcium, iron, Vit. A, C, K, and beta-carotene. Toss with some olive oil, garlic, raisins, and some crushed almonds.

Ground Almond Butter – gotta have some peanut butter or other nut butter. Make sure it’s organic though as it is a source of fat. Low quality nuts, make low quality nut butters.

Great snack, throw it on some veggies, or fruit. Easy to travel with too.

Organic Coconut Milk – I love coconut. This is the thick canned milk, which I’ll put in smoothies, on fruit, and make curries with. As long as you’re buying some organic coconut milk, don’t worry about the fat! Coconuts, and their associated fats are so ridiculously healthy for you, Eat Them!

Celery – not pictured: organic celery is cheap! and throw on some ground almond butter and cinnamon and it’s a solid snack.

You can still eat well, and eat cheap. Save some of that grocery money for a new board.
